Welcome to Jason Watson, PE, PTOE, who leads our new Transportation Engineering Department!

From an early age, Jason Watson was intrigued with civil engineering. His father and uncle both were Principals of well-known firms. He interned a large, international civil firm, and the Transportation Department Director was looking for help. It’s all been roadway designs and traffic signals from there! For the past 18 years, Jason has dedicated his career to transportation engineering on projects throughout the western United States. From rural intersection improvements to multi-lane urban highway widening, he knows his way around roadway and traffic design.

His knowledge runs deep, including the design and management of over 80 traffic signals, over 150 miles of roadway projects, and over 80 transportation projects across the Western United States. He has prepared multiple DCRs, traffic impact studies, traffic volume collections and presentation, parking studies, traffic control plans, signing and striping plans, traffic signal plan specifications, cost estimating, corridor studies and the design of arterial roadways. Having worked with over 50 government agencies, he has a clear understanding of regulations and processes.

Jason has performed field reviews and provided on-site service for a number of city and local government projects. As a result, he has the experience to work effectively, providing on-site data collection and data analysis regarding traffic, safety, and intersection operations.

Jason has served as the Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) Manager on multiple design-build projects across the state of Utah.

Jason can’t keep himself away from the roads – outside of work he hits the pavement running, and he has run several marathons. Jason also enjoys boating and spending time with his wife and four children.

By adding Jason’s in-house transportation expertise, Focus Engineering & Surveying extends our services for traffic signal, impact studies, and turn lane design, with a full understanding of UDOT standards.
